Refusing Diligence, To Do Even Basic Math

Refusing Diligence, To Do Even Basic Math Why do we too oft blindly walk a deep, darken path Through the volleys of arrows shot by Fate's mighty wrath When in this wicked world, we could accept light's reprieve By opening both heart and eyes to truth thus perceive That darkness rests within our souls, all flesh is the same That glaring fact, ensuing battles are no mere game. Why do we too oft blindly walk a deep, darken path Refusing diligence to do even basic math When from within, we feel those hard-fought battles raging It is a war and true enemies we are engaging Thus 'tis folly to not recognize that fierce-some foe And find, accepting evil allow darkness to grow. Why this glaring reality do we too oft deny, If not in our souls, darkness hides waiting to Light defy? Robert J. Lindley, 11- 04- 1978, edited 7-12-2003, 6-02-2022 Sonnet Note: Tis a somber reality that we too oft embrace life as a game, Not seeing in youth, that it is our rashness we must tame.

This one really punched me in the face (in the good ole’ masochistic way). It’s really neat to see the age of this poem in the timeline you provided. “Refusing diligence to do basic math” is a really beautiful line for the inner struggle to recognize the inherent simplicity in being that haunts the human mind in the guise of difficulty…if I read part of this correctly. Love it.

Yeah my inner voice is an a-hole when I accidentally let it speak.

Well thank you my friend. The edits made were both minor. And both were needed as I wanted the full truth to be displayed. Life is a struggle from within. We call that our inner spirit. And we are oft engaged in massive battles with that inner voice. God bless.

Life is a funny thing. The young don't know/don't care. When old many can't do what they want/need to do. Have a blessed day writing away.............

My friend, in youth we are stil blinded by lack of knowledge. In old age we are hampered by health issue, emotional and heartfelt anguish of past tragedies and our look to a growing limit to our existence. Youth too oft sets the stage to think in present, immediate and dreamed of possibilities due to the perceived time ahead. Ignoring the reality of time and the billions of deceptions of this dark and evil drawn world. God bless...
