Reflections on Another Milestone

Every birthday's a milestone,
One step closer to heaven,
And tomorrow's another,
Number four-score-and-seven.
I wish I could say growing old has been fun,
But it hasn't,
I'm tired,
All my battles are won.
Still a part of me thinks,
It would be kind of great
To be blowing out candles
At four-score-and-eight.
I just hope when my time comes,
There's no muss and no fuss,
And, fingers crossed,
It's before I'm a century-plus.

Happy Birthday to all you other PS May babies!

a huge happy birthday, jim! it's a delight to see a poem of yours today and i hope you get to celebrate in whatever style you choose! (this is a cool coincidence because i just wrote a poem about birthdays since my sister is in disney world to celebrate hers - NOT a place i would have ever chosen for mine!)

Ilene, thank you so much. A nice quiet celebration for me this year. I can't imagine a Disney World BD, either...but hey, "chacun à son gout"...as they say.
