Reflections of a Fool

I looked outside my window
One bright and sunny day
I saw the birds fly to and fro
Their chirping seemed to say

Come out and see this glorious world
And listen to our song
With sunshine and our singing
How could anything go wrong?

As through my door I stepped with care
To bright sunshine I walked
The birds were flying here and there
And with their chirping talked

They seemed to say for all to hear
So nice you happened by
Walk with us serenading you
Neath sunny, cloudless sky

Content I walked on paths of green
Where many walked before
Across a meadow, hill and woods
Around a distant shore

In waters of a crystal stream
I looked into a pool
Reflected back a me I saw
The image of a fool

I realized then as I stood there
That time could pass you by
As quickly as those birds passed me
Across that azure sky

Why did I waste my valuable time
With worry and with stress
The only reason I could find
It's human I would guess

But had I seen what I saw now
The sky, the grass, the trees
The riffles on the crystal brook
Created by the breeze

I think I would have changed my ways
And gained a fresher start
To see the pleasures of the eye,
The gladness of the heart
