Reflections
She is the drug that makes me so dark.
She makes me light the damning spark.
I’m in her cold mirror,
and she waves me nearer.
My body echoes her movement.
She is me, but with improvement.
We share brown eyes and a pale complexion.
She is me, but perfection.
She too has brown hair,
but carries a hunger in her air.
She shows me what the world sees —
a helpless girl weak at the knees.
She is not my reflection,
but a stark objection — Right?
Closer, she says. Come closer—
“Wouldn’t it be nice… to feel?”
“Close your eyes. Let’s make a deal.”
Listening, I pause — fixated and afflicted.
Slowly I nod. I am addicted.
With her electric gaze, entranced I become —
she possesses me so I slip and succumb.
My eyes go black, and my veins run cold.
Oblivion is the poison I’ve been sold.
Waves of euphoria, blurring and blushing —
the world around me faded and rushing.
Warmth and peace —
life is but a lease.
Off I go into sweet escape,
off I go under a tranquil cape.
Before long, my wave crashes.
My peace falling to nothing but ashes.
I open my eyes
and my high dies.
And she grins as she always does before fading into the glass.
And I can’t wait until we meet again.
