Reflection

You've stopped sleeping; behind closed eyes you find The sins you unknowingly burned onto your mind That break you down even as you leave them behind Because you cannot run from who you're becoming You remember the feeling, the cool of the blade That you buried in her back when she started to fade She was real enough then, but the blood has been paid You cringe when you can't forget the taste But, please: smile and move on, pretend we can't see Than the man you once were is not the monster you be But from this stain on your hands you will never be free Until you face down the demon in the mirror Leave the beer in the fridge, the meds on the shelf Shut the cabinet door and look at yourself If you feel nothing in this final test Down the pill bottle and go get some rest Do not bother coming in tomorrow
