Reflecting On My Current Position
I always looked at Life as poker without a dealer.
Pick up your own cards,
Play how you will,
You fold or collect your chips.
But even in poker you can fold before you lose it all.
Life is not a game for the desperate.
I cannot measure my moments in chips,
Why would anyone give up such riches?
Memories are not for our hands,
To hold them like possessions is a tragedy at best.
Now I’d like to think each of us is our own star,
Burning till we just burn out,
Leaving behind the pieces
That the ones we love can use to build their own homes.
I am the guiding star in the dark night,
You are the blinding flashes that illuminate my life,
And we all shine.
The glitter that remains is warm and all consuming,
It lights the sky and is found in the glass you hold.
Glitter in my eyes, glitter on my hands,
The strongest words could never wash that away.
Stellar humanity joins to form the
constellations, nations,
That can survive in our memories and never fade.
We keep these, like summer nights,
closest to our heart.
