Refining the Soul
A lifetime of disappointment
tempers an unrefined soul.
Sometimes the metal of rejection
forges a soft heart of gold.
The rock of unbending pride
erodes from the tears of despair.
In the mines of the flesh,
humility's jewels await to be found.
Veins of hope lay hidden
in the dark soil of fear.
Ores of the world's cold cares
supply the riches of sorrow.
Each discovered lode of emotion
is a treasure beyond value.
The coals of despair, pain, and sorrow
creates the diamond of the soul.
