Red-Sailed Ships

Life is that little thing
at the end of a taut wire
that, for the moment,
you cannot let go...

Nor should you want to,
for the gods are aware
of the taut wire
and where it leads.

Life is that crazy thing
that you cannot control
or patiently push
in a wanted direction.

Nor should you want to,
for the gods watch your every move
and demand
a fitful worship.

See them on the highest moon -
higher than ours
on ghostly night
of red-sailed ships.

That is imaginative life
and what it means
to express it freely,
wantonly, here, to you.
