Notes About The Poem

Red Cap Requiem

a cardinal sang ...

sweet, to send my soul soaring,

til I saw his muse ...

a beautied mate - his one love -

cold and still ... on April snow.

A beautiful penned sad poem Greg, I love cardinals, it makes my day special when they appear. One of the species of birds who mate for life.

Like most birds, they mate for life, Anne-Lise, and keep returning each year to where their mate was lost, singing for them to return until they die themselves, that's what makes their loss so poignant for me ... like some devoted humans, they only live for one-another. Thank you for your comment, my friend! <3

Oh, truly breathtaking in its sad beauty, Gregory. A Fav! I absolutely adore cardinals and have many pairs in my back garden. They are as devoted to their young as they are to each other. This poem touches me deeply. Congratulations on your wonderful win, my friend. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan
