Notes About The Poem

Red Blood Shed For War

For one infinite moment
I fall in suspended animation;
Time stops, the moment timeless.
I am blinded by the lightning and thunder,
by life's inconsistencies, by man's discord.

I visualize a man who hugs the wall
as he evades a downpour
and looks into the windows
as he passes by.
But houses are darkened
as overhead bombs fall.
His faith in a supreme being
is never shaken, but depends
on a mere human, one with an evil heart.

I awake in a sweat. Was I that man?
No, it cannot be, for I knew
The man hides not his face,
but fear and death show clearly.
In vain he tries to escape his fate.

Again my eyes peer at the sky
And I cry out:
"Why, my God, why?"
Dusk turns darker and darker,
No redness in the lustreless sky;
but there is plenty on the earth
where my brothers die
because of one man's wicked heart.

Powerful emotions come through these lines; war is so unnecessary, but humans don't seem to be able to rise above it, collectively. An excellent pen.

Reality can be hard sometimes - war is a product of man's greed - your poem depicts the horror each soldier has in his heart and the fear of whether or not he will survive this battle of a wartorn country, will he return home, ever??? Well penned dear friend - a wonderful incredible poem. hugs and blessings, Jennifer

The tragedy and devastation brought on by war is vividly described in this gripping, excellently written verse. There are better solutions to conflicts than war.

The devastation caused by conflicts torment humankind. Violence is a real thing, whether we believe it or not, and now you have, as usual, eloquently portrayed the horror that war brings to humankind. Victor very well said.

Blood shed of wars devastate humanity. Dream or not-- wars are real and you captured the effect of their evil on humanity expertly, as always, Victor.
