Recurrences

They come equal to clay statues painted with dwarf eyes
Greedily eating the treats I put out for them
They come over and visit cautiously
Poking and picking and making a mess
But I don’t mind
I’ve missed their entertaining visits
They have flown far and wide
Deliberate in the pattern of what is now a place of home
Dressed in navy feathers and tout heads
Blue jays screeching about
The ever so tiny chickadees
With such perfect black caps about their heads
Yesterdays vivid calling of the Baltimore oriole
Showing off his bright orange hues
The life long, wondrous, sky scraping chatters
All my little song birds are but are reminder of new beginnings
And at times, harsh endings

Beautiful poem, Laura! We have lots of birds in the woods behind my house, but the owls are amazing. I can just see all of the birds in your poem gathering in your yard "greedily eating the treats."

Hello sweet Laura, trying to make a slow come back here, starting with you. Blue jays are incredible and I must stop everything when I see one to watch. We have so many gorgeous cardinals, so I must be grateful for that. Love the birds, love your poem. Lots of love to you, Shar xoxo

We feed and study the birds too, but hardly get more than starlings, a few crows, and, once in a while, a blue jay. The harsh endings are terrible, but that's nature, that's living. Great write Love, daver
