Reconquista

Mexican activists say we took Mexican land by war
From California to Wyoming, a theft they can't ignore.
They want the land back, and they see a way to succeed
Massive movement over the border, then one day to secede.

They call it "Reconquista": the new country "Aztlan."
They have help from leftists, who seek votes where they can.
Myself, I'm conflicted, why give up any state?
But as to fairness, its a reasonable debate.

On the other hand you can look at the Mayan empire
It didn't reach this far, even if they had the desire.
The Aztecs didn't either, it was only after Spain took charge:
That Mexico reached so far north, that Mexico got large.

There's a lot of outreach from Mexico to migrants here
They talk of U.S. materialism, but the irony is clear
The migrants come for more "dinero", that's the main drive
If not materialism, then what makes them arrive?

In World War One, Germany feared the U.S. would join the fray
So it tried to get Mexico to help it fight the U.S.A
It said Mexico could get Texas, California, with Germany's aid
This outraged the gringos, and a price was paid..

But the dream of Reconquista still rises, it remains
And again, I'm conflicted, were those states ill-gotten gains?
We made excuses like "Manifest Destiny", or a Texas border fight
I can't wrap my head around who's wrong and who is right.

I don't want the package of Mexican rule and leftist control
Arizona is part of our history, California played a role.
Don't want to learn Spanish, or bow my head to a cartel
There are problems south of the border, things don't go so well.

But the Reconquest is big, I'm reading "The invisible Coup"
Peter Schweizer writes of what activists want to do.
Birthright citizenship also means Chinese fly here to give birth
Brought up in China, then a million voters on our turf.

These are issues to confront; do we make a stand?
Did we take it by force, do we belong on the land?
Mexico was taken by conquistadores, maybe they should go back to Spain?
Arguments go both ways, but hard questions do remain.
