RECOLLECTION OF THE LONELY HEART...14 years ago

Side by side we walked
To each other we talked
Chit-chat in the corridors
While others mocked

Friendship nurtured
Companionship treasured
Hope invested
A future under one roof imagined

A glance at you...admiration
A smile at me...sensational
A bond formed
"Do you know him?"...others asked
...in earnest?...I doubted
Suspicion sown
In a heart so tender
At the epitome of rare intimacy
A bond weakened 

Your desires
Your wishes
Your aspirations
Their expectations
My ambitions
Competition...
Frustrations
Heart break...tears
A gulf between us...

I was there yesterday
Where all this happened
For real... l thought...

You could have been my first and only love
