Rebuke

I try to do well, keep the peace, find a way.
I try to be thoughtful in all that I say.
I’m willing to leave all my interests behind
to follow the Lord, so I’m shocked now to find

that I stand here rebuked at this moment in time.
I guess it’s because the Lord had to remind
me that my ways aren’t in the least like his at all.
Thought I was defending, but I thought too small.

It’s a hard thing to understand, what it’s about,
but maybe it’s time that we figure it out -
that the purpose we’re here isn’t tied to this earth.
We all chose our mission long before birth.

If we want to be like him and walk in his ways
then we’ll have to remember, the rest of our days
that there isn’t a single thing that will be lost
when we prove ourselves faithful… and go to our cross.

Matthew 16: 21-23
