Rebirth of Worth
REBIRTH OF WORTH
Self conceit is thought a trait to be deplored
Despised when recognised in self or others
And modesty is praised with full accord
Instilled in us by Dutch uncles and mothers
Yet if you choose to go with the inverse
Self hating makes the pairing - a dichotomy
And could in truth prove as a greater curse
Executing an elan ‘vitalotomy’
When I in life myself to another endow
What would the value be of that donation
If I esteem it little as gift; I disavow
Responsibility; I make an abdication
So let us renew acceptance of our worth
Grant life to self, thence all by this rebirth
p.s.
Whether our value is given by God or is innate
It may be enhanced or destroyed by our own dictate
