Rebel Flag

Revolutionary Elements of our population Back in 1776 broke with England, and Lacking finances and supplies, Fired a shot heard 'round the world. Launched a revolution Against the government. George Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, and others became REBELS. Author's Note: Betsy Ross sewed our FIRST Rebel flag. If you condemn the leaders of the Confederacy and remove their monuments, remember that our country's Founding Fathers were also rebels and traitors in their day. Right or wrong, the Southern Confederacy was also made up of Americans who fought for their beliefs, just as the patriots of 1776. And if you believe that the Confederate flag represents slavery, remember it only existed for 5 years, while slavery existed under the Stars and Stripes for 75 years before 1861! Which is the REAL Rebel flag? I wrote this for a contest on another site. I'm NOT trying to be controversial and do not have feelings one way or the other. Just stating fact. (politically incorrect or not, YOU CAN'T CHANGE HISTORY)

Hello Rich. I agree 100%. I lean toward the opinion, when people choose to ignore history, they are more likely to repeat it. You probably won't get many comments on this Rich. People are afraid of labels. I wrote a few poems about the civil war and slavery. On my first page "My Previous Life" "Malignancy- The Civil War" and "The Photo. You might like them since you are a history buff:) Keep posting:)

I did read your poems, Daniel, and I like them very much. I do see what you mean about people on this site not commenting on poems. Lots of views on all my other poems here, but VERY few comments. You are one of a very few that even responded. I thank you for that.

What bothers me are the "politically correct" that think that they can change the history books because they don't like the outcome. In 14 years of working in 2 school districts, I have seen this happen in history textbooks. I really don't care about comments; just want people to think about our history. We may not be a perfect country, but we're still a darn sight better than most!
