Reason To Hurt

Reason To Hurt

Lost, alone, always in pain,
No energy to exert.
It doesn't matter how i try,
So i find a reason to hurt.

My joints all ache, my muscles throb.
I crack and creek and pop.
I want to give up but i won't stop.
Instead, calmly to myself i assert,
"I'm alright, let's carry on."
"I need a reason to hurt."

"I'm in pain all the time, everyday."
"I do what i can but it won't go away."
"At least if i'm working, my mind will divert."
"And at the end of it all,"
"I'll have a reason to hurt."

I need a pain i can define,
So they can't say "It's all in your mind."
Their diagnosis is inert
But it gives me a reason to hurt.

And if you ever find
That you're out of mind (though you suffer real)
Don't bury your head in the dirt.
Go out and find a reason to hurt.
