Reality Check

I play with sorrow hide-and-seek For love will hide and I am weak, And when I locate the pot of gold I find the rainbow has been sold. I explore the real life of this fairy tale The gingerbread house is up for sale. The frog is not what he proclaims to be A wolf in grandma's nightie is all I see. The prince is having a bad hair day The beauty is not in the beast I say. The carriage 'till midnight will not last I'll have pumpkin pie to break my fast. I climb the beanstalk way up high Open Sesame I cry and cry, Look there's a dragon at my door... I don't believe in fairy tales no more. So tell the seven dwarfs to stay away Tell the ogres I don't want to play. The damsel in distress I'll never be For I'm the ugly stepsister, you see.

Nice change to the old fairy - tale. Rather dark - "a good change of place". Watch out for dragons - and keep writing! Yours Matthew Anish

I honestly doubt if you're the ugly stepsister, though I do understand the way one can fel like that as I too have felt like the ugly stepbrother at times. The references you made clearly convey the sentiment of the piece and the write itself is superb. Michael

Reality isn't all it's cracked up to be, and real beauty is still in the eye of the beholder. Never stop believing in fairy tales. They are easier to believe in than some people. God Bless, Heidie. Vince

we are so sterotyped by what the media says that we end up developing a complex about ourselves that usually is not warranted, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, great write, take care D-nyce

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers Heidi. They will do all the pre-ops on Monday. I see the doctors on Wednesday for the final instructions. This is a lovely poem. It reminds me of putting my kids to bed at night with a variety of bedside stories. God bless and great job! ~Joseph

Awww, Heidi. You are so much more than that---but reality does have a way of coming back to bite us, doesn't it? You had a very clever way of putting it---but I wish one day that you will find happiness and love--that you deserve. Love, Sara
