Ready For Anything

Her words came parading out in a pretty way
But her attitude was not the right one
So many of us children saw through it

Beautiful words, but a mean look
Shutting some down for an hour
Others for the day,
Me for the rest of the school year

I never believed this teacher again
Her face and her words were not in sync.
I already lived with that; I knew what that meant.
Even though I was only five, I stayed on my toes.
Ready for anything.
