Reaching
I awake at night,
It is dark,
And my mind is hazy,
I reach out to see,
If you are there
No one is,
So the loneliness is not but a dream...
It is my life...
Somewhere you rest,
I wonder if you reach out...
And I wonder if you are pleased...
With what you find your life to be...
I very much doubt you have to dance alone,
As I do...
Or if a lover's caress is but an old memory,
As it is for me...
And I hope you do not suffer the pains I live with,
Before I shift to thought...
The pains so intense and withering,
So much more than they need ought...
When going to bed at night means
Another bout of pain and hurt,
Not the comfort rejuvenation that it ought...
And you know from past experience,
How elusive peace can be...
And if you do,
You experience what it means
to be as unfortunate as me...
