Notes About The Poem

For The Raindrops Poetry Contest of Jcb Brul

Raindrops

Recycling ourselves endlessly, we are the givers of life for all.
A misconception is that we bear the shape of a tear.
In fact we are flat although from the side, we appear
Nearly round, as from the sky we fall.
Dropping gently as showers when we are small,
Reveling in pelting the earth when we are large, we can be something to fear.
On land we can cause floods. Driven by wailing wind, we are a squall.
Petrichor, our scent so fresh, we hope that you at least recall
Subsequent to our appearance, which no one can forestall!

How well you have described the falling of raindrops from the sky, in acrostic form. You describe so well how the gentle raindrops assume frightening proportions, causing flood driven by wailing winds. In 2018, our land has been victimized by a severe flood. All the Best dear Andrea.

Andrea, thanks for your comments today. It takes time to make the effort you make, and hopefully many here can appreciate that. As I read this poem of yours, a big smile appears inside my head. I don't think I will view rain in exactly the same way going forward. I'll be thinking about how the drops aggregate and split apart. Your personification of them is wonderful!!! Making this a favorite!

As an inveterate northwesterner this poem speaks to my love of rain and rainy days when watching rain from a cozy place! You really explore all the aspects of rain from its benefits to its challenges! Best wishes for the contest! Blessings of a new summer to you! I can almost hear the sound of the aspens in the wind!

Nice. Melancholy similarity of raindrops as tears are merely a reflection of poet's state of mind. You portrayed the reality.

Yes, sometimes I just prefer reality. Thanks.
