Rain In the Night

I lay in bed listening to the rain in the night Patter on my roof, patter, patter I thought about all I have lost, wiped away, - Gone - As if water washed it all away No, it was people, circumstance that did Not to be found, retrieved or replaced again Nothing to mend the heart or fill the emptiness within The rain kept falling into the night, as I shut my eyes to sleep Listening, I was comforted by the patter, patter Like footsteps returning, faces to see again Words left unspoken, now able to be said In this life there is only once chance to fully make it right - Resolution or completion - Either way, no-one knows when it can happen A presence in life suddenly washed away, out of sight Only to return in dreams, when the eyes shut…. To the patter of rain falling in the night Heidi Sands 5/13/17

A very beautiful, and soothing poem. I think the rain can induce a sort of comforting calm in us
