Rain Drops of Yesterday
RAIN DROPS OF YESTERDAY
I remembered
A pelt of raindrops upon the thatch
Dawn has never beckons for the cocks, still slumbered
And the silence suffers from my muted rattles
She wished I was silent
Who?
My mother, a calabash of comforts
So she tricked me and wooed me
lovely, passionately she won the battle
It was a breast milk festivity
Leaking from the sides of my mouth
Mother sleeps, baby sleeps
Waiting till the dawn comes
Then I cry once again
The bed was wet and cold
That was the days long gone
Of our scorns for bed-wetting
Childhood days
Mothers critical era
Fathers joy of manly prowess
Two decades and a third into thin air
Now I am a man
Armed for the turn
Childhood of my dream
Yet to come not gone yet
What I remembered indeed.
