Notes About The Poem

Author’s Notes: “Radio Music” is a Blank Verse poem that I completed on October 2, 2017. It has a special message of wonder and enchantment that portrays what "Radio Music" especially means to me under the circumstances I've described in its verses. Lyrics, music, and God -- why not?? (Gary Bateman – October 2, 2017) (Blank Verse)

Radio Music

Radio Music

I sense this music has a soulful touch;
A special purpose that only lyrics
Possess to enchant my inner being.
I oft pass up soft, soothing sleep late night
To marvel at the magic of some songs;
Tunes that draw me into deep moments of
Raw emotions that tease and test the kind
Of person—I am or wish I could be!
What else could one expect from a cosmos
Laden with such lyrics, music, and God?

I am not a great champion of free verse, Gary -- but I really do quite like this! It has a simplistic charm associated with it all that is all rather soothing - lovely! My very warmest regards, Gary. Your grateful friend. :) john P.s Thank you for your kind and generous comments regarding "An Eternity" -- it is very much appreciated! :) john

Hello John, Thanks a very much for your gracious comments here. And, I am very pleased that you liked this particular Blank Verse selection on "Radio Music." I tend to be more of a traditional metered and rhyming type of poet by both inclination, interest, and training. That said, I 'm always experimenting around and trying different formats whenever I can. (I do write prose and short stories too!! And this experience has certainly helped to embellish the writing and development of my poetry even more.) BTW, I did enjoy you "An Eternity" very much -- a real masterpiece for sure!! Cheers and Best, Gary

A wonderful lyrical piece Gary. You nailed it as always. I agree that the magic of some songs resonate with us and send us into a deep meditative zone, whether it be emotional or just a tease. The Cosmos is all music in a numerical form which enables us to translate it...Love it Gary...Maria

MY FRIEND, you never fail to deliver exceptional poetry written on a top class level. Asking if this expression of mankind in music , springs from his link to God? THAT ANSWER IS YES, ALTHOUGH TOO OFT MAN STEERS MUSIC INTO THE DARK SIDE, METHINKS.. Always, you give us verses that sing and ask us to think and enjoy!!! A fav my friend..

Beautifully crafted poem, Gary. I have yet try and write a Blank poem. But I can always look at yours for a primer example. The melding in visceral emotion and cerebral existentialism is weaved expertly by your gifted pen, my friend. Keeping casting out the gems. Poet Pac-Man loves to gobble jewels. Lol! Very insightful poem. Elegant simplicity. Star light poetry. Love and smiles always.

Hello Freddie, Thanks as always for your wondrous and thoughts on my poetry. Yes, for sure, go ahead and use my Blank Verse write of Radio Music as a primer example, if you choose to do so. Some points to remember are: (1) BV writes are unrhymed; (2) They are normally scored at 10-syllables per verse; (3) The length is variable for Blank Verse poetry, although 10-14 verses allow one to really focus on the poetic theme to be covered; (4) BV poetry was popularized by Shakespeare, Marlowe, and Milton. I hope this info helps!! Poet Pac-Man proceed and do great things!! Cheers and Best, Gary

Hello Dear D!! First, Ingrid and I are so glad to hear that you're okay, and we hope and wish you a most speedy recovery from your "fall" during Hurricane Irma. (I sent you a Soup Mail, but didn't know if you received it or not.) And, second, thanks for your read of and great comments on "Radio Music." I like the Blank Verse writes in I.P. Geoffrey Chaucer was the one, among medieval English writers, who used this format avidly in many of his writes. Thanks for the FAVE too!! Again, we're both so glad you're okay D!! You're in our thoughts and prayers too!! Spill Ink!! Cheers and Best, G!!
