I am always horrified when I hear that a football player with an injury is determined to continue playing. So sad! “Winning is the key” tongue in cheek.

Definitely tongue-in-cheek. But, with some of these younger athletes who don't know what the future holds in terms of disfigurement, disability, and chronic pain, winning is everything.

Well, I hope Margarita thinks so! I'm certain Davy has learned his lesson!

I enjoyed the verse but hope winning doesn't have to be that painful for most! Good luck.

Hello Milton ... if he keeps it up Arthur Itis will soon become his friend for life. We tried to instill in our kids that winning is not as important as doing your best for the team - thanks Milton - Lindsay

Thank you, Lindsay. That is the most important lesson to learn in sports, I think.

Ouch. This one hit home. I was Davy at age 16. Permanently screwed my knee, then in succession, my ankles and feet. Lucky that I got to 57 before I broke down totally. Now I can barely walk right. 'Saturday's hero' is a -- fool, mostly. Oh, well. Water over the dam for me now. :) gw

Very well-done, uplifting, Milton. My granddaughter, soccer player, tore up one knee--then the other the very next year--pain, surgeries, therapy on and on. At the sports recognition program, when she was a senior, the coach gave her a special award (actually created one for her!) God knows she earned it. Janice

But, you'll always wonder was the "special award" worth the pain and sorrow???? Thanks for sharing, Janice.

Yes, winning is certainly more important than all the money he will spend on healthcare for his knee over the next sixty years .....

No, it is not, Rico. I was a massage therapist in private practice for about six years, and I can tell you those who play sports in high school are destined for bad knees, ankles, and shoulders in later life. I have wondered if it is worth it, but most who played say it was. Who knows?
