Quite Upset

Just when did corporations take over Halloween?
And why did they do something so mean?

Halloween is for kids to go trick-or-treating on their block
Not for adults to hold drunken orgies on the company's clock

It used to be in the air for a week or two at most
Now garish promotions roll out from Labor Day almost

Costumes were always goblins and ghosts, witches on brooms
Today they are sex-crazed, cleavage-happy vampires of doom

I'm quite upset and equally confused
At this little kids' holiday, by adults so abused

I just discovered this jewel of a poem today, Gershon. I have met children who tell me they drive to the "rich neighborhoods" and do not trick or treat on their block at all. I am so glad you have penned this, as you are right. Many adults have taken over and ruined this holiday. It was for little kids, not for the old ones! The costumes are horrible, too just like your poem said. Corporations now rule this - with despicable horror outfits, bloody and all.

Clearly, great minds think alike, Caren. (Ha, ha. Happy Halloween, belatedly). ~ Gershon

Couldn't agree more Gershon, some think it's a license to scare the living daylights out of people especially the old. Tom

Nice to have some 'agreeability' in life these (contentious) days. Thanks, Tom! ~ Gershon
