Quills of a Poet

Some poets can shine a light,
They are oh, so bright,
having penetrating insight.
The ink they spill
might come from an owl quill.

Some write poems beautiful and sublime,
with lovely meter and lovely rhyme,
like a silver bell's melodic chime.
It gives me a chill.
They might write from a peacock quill.

Some of them who write are so brave,
hiding not fearfully in a cave,
They tell the truth, society to save,
but they would never kill.
They speak boldly with an eagle quill.

There are those like Edgar Allan Poe,
inspired by the world below,
but beautifully, if I say so,
and with such shocking skill,
with (you guessed it) - a raven's quill!

Sometimes, when I try the poet's game,
it just don't turn out the same.
Oh, what a mess and I'm to blame.
I've got the brains of a burger on a grill
     when I write with a dodo's quill.

Well, anyway, you know what?
There's something else I must tell you, but,
well, OK, now you know - I'm a nut,
and it's time for me to refill
     my cherished cuckoo quill.

You are truly 'the humble humorist,' David. So self-effacing. Remarkable in this day and age of the Loud and Pompous. Kados, Gershon
