Put To the Test

PUT TO THE TEST

Planet earth has been put to the test,
Everyone we hope is doing their best,
Unavoidable to sometimes feel depressed,
No family member for tea or a friend or guest.

My hands I am sure have become bleached,
Police and army around, law not to be breached,
Spanish flu took 3 years for safety to be reached
Sadly, folk from what I hear, will become unhinged!

Three weeks at home with your near and dear,
But family not living with us cannot come near,
For this Covid 19 virus is one that we all fear,
Eat well, be strong, talk on phone, and STEER CLEAR!

Grocery stores and pharmacies open, at your service,
Go, Wear your mask and gloves, don’t be nervous,
Keep your distance or you will do yourself a disservice,
All this virus needs to collide with you, is a tiny crevice!

But we must have faith and believe that we will make it,
Don't we all have in our homes a basic medical kit,
We should pray with all of our strength and being, don’t quit
Stay indoors mostly, so you don’t get the virus or transmit,

God bless each and every human on Planet Earth
From Moscow right around the world to Perth,
Think of the number infected along its length and girth,
Won’t always be somber, someday maybe, will experience mirth!

Let us now think of the thousands that have died,
And honor them and their families with a fearsome pride,
By adding the growing number to our prayers every night,
And by being humble, human, always doing what is right!

Hi Jennifer, back to read and enjoy your powerful poem. I'm surprised because I thought I left you a comment when you were selected for POTD, sometimes I forget to wait to see if it really got sent. Sorry. Glad you included this on your "10 poems that define me" list, because you poured your heart into this excellent poem. Hard to believe we are still quarantining and wearing masks nearly 2 months later! Hope you are keeping safe and healthy. Congrats and hugs ~ John

Line I thought so too, thank you for an apt lovely comment. Who would have thought this last Christmas past, that a pandemic would envelop Planet Earth and hundreds of thousands of people would die. Let us pray that God guides our scientists and doctors to discover a vaccine. Blessings, Jennifer.

Well dear Sister in Jesus, I came for another read ... and to check on your hands. I am asking Jesus, in His completed work on Calvary's Cross, to show healing & favor to your hands. Be restored to youth & beauty because that's the kind of God we serve. He loves us in every detail of our lives, fears, concerns. amen/IRENE!

A lovely comment thank you Anil, exactly a hundred years ago was the Spanish flu, seems kind of weird! Wel,l used to have well manicured nails, even our lady that helps us at home had to stay in her home, so washing, cooking ironing and cleaning has become my latest occupation - thank goodness for our business we run from home, and poetry soup! Blessings, Jennifer. Blessings Jennifer.

Dropping back to read this Jennifer its one of the best I've read on the subject, being on lock down is tough but we have to do it to ensure the virus doesn't decimate our small population, we will get through if we work together, hope you are all ok and can remain virus free:-) hugs Jan xx

I watch SKY News and CNN every night as well as the South African News and the news around the world is devastating - who would have thought on Christmas Day last year that we would be in this surreal, but yet real situation that our world finds themselves in. Be well dear Jan and your family and be safe. Thank you for a lovely comment Blessings and hugs, Jennifer

Hi Gershon, Thank you Gershon on both counts. As I have mentioned to a few of my fellow poets, we are trying to keep our business afloat, not that it is big, but we have a few staff, and of course, with lock down, we are trying to manage on our own., so I have been a little scarce. Take care and be safe my friend. Blessings, Jennifer.

Many are afraid, many don't understand and many don't know what to expect. Many don't know what to do. While some stores close, events around us stop, only temporarily. While many are dying- many are doing everything they can- to stay alive. We strive to fight this. I am praying for all. We will get through this. Congratulations Jennifer, on Poem of the Day!! ~ Brandy

We certainly do Paula and perhaps a great many us us have not been praying as hard and as often as we should, that is why God is maybe hurt with us - a hundred years ago was the Spanish flu which killed over a hundred and fifty million people and lasted three years but medicine has advanced a hundred years since then. Be safe Paula. Blessings, Jennifer.
