Notes About The Poem

Purple Heartless

Eddie took up the call from ‘Uncle Sam’ Awarded a Purple Heart from Vietnam PTSD turns him into Jekyll and Hyde His poor wife lives in fear, she’s petrified Her daily beatings are a disgrace Livid purple bruises mar her face Designer shades cover her black eyes No one sees fists fly or hears her cries Purple 2 Poetry Contest Sponsored by Kevin Shaw 1/26/19

G'day Jan … for individuals, a war doesn't end with the last shot. The effects cause so much pain and suffering, and mostly hidden from society while politicians turn their faces away - thank you Jan - Lindsay

Hi Jan, You've penned a good entry for the contest theme. The same war that made him a hero, also caused him to be Dr.Jekel and Mr. Hyde .Many soilders come back with PTSD. It is so sad and it happens worldwide. Excellent job. It looks like a winner to me. I wish you the best of luck in the contest- Alexis

Perhaps, like many, she believes it isn't really her he is hitting, but demons from the past. In any case, when he opens his eyes and sees the damage he has done, he should know he (and she) needs immediate help! Good luck in the contest! Aloha! Rico
