Pure Black Diamond

deep in the bowels of the earth
this treasure is found,
dug out by the men
who work underground,

they crawl and hack to fill the store
waiting for the call, mind your heads
as a blast is used to loosen more
this black diamond.

In the mining area in the valleys nearby
many a child had no father to give,
lost in the pit in an explosion, they cried,
many men lost so others can live.

the commodity they dig for
you will recognise am sure,
the black diamond I write about
is.... coal....shiny and pure.

I believe our government is closing most of our coal mines, opting for greener sources of energy. Thousands of people will lose their jobs but maybe we can still save our planet. Enjoyed reading your write Seren. Too many deaths in cave-ins. Very dangerous work.

I toyed with going down the coal theme too Seren but knowing of all the mines in Wales I'm not surprised you chose this topic- great interpretation of the contest - good luck:-) hugs Jan xx
