Arlene Smith Poet Couplet

Punkchewayshun and Spelling

Such a grammar fiend, is this thing called punctuation.
A huge plethora of mind numbing aggravation.

Commas, periods and parenthesis too;
colons and semicolons; what's a writer to do?

In spelling, I used to make only straight A's.
Now I blow up spell check most every day.

I could avoid punctuation; write only Haiku,
but I'm no quitter; to myself I must be true.

My teacher always told me, "If you can't spell a word,
look it up in the dictionary." Silliest thing I ever heard.

All the words are there in column after column,
but, how to look them up, if you can't even spellum?!

Andrea Dietrich July 22, 2014 at 12:44 AM hahaha, I used to wonder the same thing , how to look up a word you can't spell if you can't spell it to look it up?? Great ending on this one, dear. With google now, we can just guess at a spelling and it just shoots the word back at us!! You DO have an unintentional spelling mistake in here. CAn you guess what it is? It's something a person can fall into after a horrible accident and sometimes never wake up from!! Arlene Smith July 22, 2014 at 6:34 AM Bah haa haa!!! Coma!!!! However, spelling was my best subject and I was even in the 7th grade spelling bee!.... I loved the clever and humorous title of this poem! A great write, Arlene!
