Pumpkin Man

riding in a car past large trees
away from the house I am staying in
to shelton I visit Dad

I look at the airport
wondering where we are going
I know I will get to see my dad

for the first time, since
this stranger has been taking care of me
I still cry myself to sleep every night

we arrive through clanged locked doors
past plastic cells
 I see you in there
with someone
holding my hand

I pick up the phone as he does
a skinny man in an orange suit
a pumkin suit he calls it
trying to make me feel better

about the 2 inches of glass
between us,

 scary butm not like halloween

we go home for the night
I won't see my dad
until I am 4 again

why scream any more?
