Pulled Back Just In Time
We sit across the table- not
More than five feet apart
We converse about little things-
nothing too important
I am silent about the things I really
Want to talk about-
Sometimes I almost reach over-
To brush a speck of lint off your
Shirt- of course- I pull back/
Just in time-
I trace the contours of your face-
With my eyes
I remember the syllables of each
words you used,
I inhale the scent of your body-
And it is embedded within the tenderness of
my heart-
I almost reach across the table to-
smooth away your frown- with
the hope of replacing it with a smile-
Of course- I pull back / just in time-
If thoughts could be transmitted
I wish you would receive mine-
If feelings could be captured
I would wish you could catch mine in
the palm of your hands-
Whenever I try to tell you how I feel-
Of course- I pull back / just in time-
I smile- say the right things
I do not voice, I love you and need you
Nor do I relay - my world will be
Empty if you went away-
Every time I began to formulate
These very words in my mind-
I, of course- pull back / just in time.
