"It rained, and it rained, and it rained. It rained so hard that Christopher Robin stayed indoors most of the time, and thought about things. Every morning he went out with his umbrella and put a stick in the place where the water came up to" - A. A. Milne

A Sam Scott poem:
2nd November 2023
-----

Listen to poem:
We splashed and dashed
We cared no jot
No inhibitions
Or adult rot

The rain was cool
The muddy puddles
No obstacles
No silent troubles

Just joyful freedom
With innocence
No hidden agenda
Or false pretence

I'm not sure when
We made the change
When childhood joy
Crept out of range

Although we've grown
Matured I'd say
In one sense drifted
Too far away..

The curious
The beautiful
These open hearts
Protect from dull

So when it rains
I want to be
The one who dances
Gleefully

In deepest puddles
Barefoot, or welly
We should all be
More like Gene Kelly

Dear Sam , im pleased to see this poem got lots of comments, as your poems are always so unique and personal and very moving woven in a poetic manner, definitely deserves to be read and appreciated more! “So when it rains i want to be the one that dances” that line speaks volumes! In a deep metaphorical way, too shows that in hard times you want to be the light for all! And those first stanzas are so profound too! Beautiful poem! Definitely a fave for me this isn

No one wants to see my dancing to be honest, Ink :) I think we'll keep it in the realm of poetic metaphor. Your comments do encourage me hugely. Thank you :))

Yes, when we were young we didn't think of what would happen, we just did it. When did it all disappear too. Enjoyed reading, Sam. Stay safe have a nice weekend.

Eve, thank you x yes when did the world steal my boundless faith that life is just for living? I have spent many moments and much thought energy on trying to win it back. Bless you in all the puddle splashing that still lies ahead, Eve :))

Arrr - such a gentle, delightful poem Sam. Love the picture too. ‘Just joyful freedom’ ‘ No hidden agenda’ - oh to be young and carefree! I’m very young hearted most of the time so I too, will gleefully enjoy jumping in the puddles! A real pleasure reading, ‘Puddles’ tonight. Have a great weekend.:):)

I'm charmed and this is true, when do we leave our innocence behind. Childhood is sacred, so natural with no agenda. I truly enjoyed. The quote and image made perfect appendages for perfect poetry. And the clever reference to Gene Kelly ah "Singing in the Rain." xhugs ~Anaya
