Puck It

I shot the puck across the ice, Straight for the goal but it took a slice, Right off the nose of their defenseman, When I steal that puck I'll try again. Coach is screaming in my ear, Every time I skate too near, I can hear him say, His opinion of my last play. I think the other center doesn't like me, Because he keeps kicking my knee, And every time he skates by, My elbow is in his eye. I will not let them stop me, But when I skate ahead and get free, I brace and pray "Oh Lord!", As my head is plastered against the boards. Up and running at them again, Slapping at the goal for the win, The puck bounces off the pole, Into the net for the winning goal! 2019 Poetry Marathon Mile 22 Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Mark Toney 3/4/19
