Notes About The Poem

"When the sacred is deleted, the body becomes the last archive.”

- Poet

=======

Proustian Ouijaboard

The gods were deleted and the tribes archived
the Vista-View—two bedrooms
beige-on-beige a fungal beard
colonizing the microwave’s lip

You watched the iron bars then the glass
then the greenish biometric light
the glass drinks the whorls of your thumb
a cyan leech labeling the ridges before
the neurons arrive early
coaxing a instinct to open its eye
matter blinking awake in their wake
always a beat behind
its outline—stubborn delayed—stumbling to catch up

A vertebra clicks and the world misfires
the locker room’s thick lactating reek
wet cement and the chemical musk of
Axe Phoenix—a scent so violent
it strips the insulation
it kicks you back into the teenage animal
gristle of your own neck

3:14 a.m. at the Wawa parking lot
sodium lamps stutter in saltatory arcs
leaking amber data into the asphalt
a signal failing to hop the gap
unsure which reality they are meant to illuminate

You a prisoner
You the Ouijaboard
the opera is transcribed in unpaid late hours
stripped myelin pale lipids drifting like snow
the white noise of your own making
slowed to an unmarketable frequency

The listening that is not a listener
does not want your confession
it waits for the precise imperceptible
asymptomatic instant
your respiration falls out of compliance

Status: nerve sheath thinning
Status: saltatory conduction faltering
Status: epineurium issuing final instructions

Just had an interesting Tête-à-tête with Gemini. I fed Gemini your poem. The response was intriguing. Gemini has delivered their response to me. I will send to your email - as too lenghty to post here. I also asked if Gemini would like to respond to your poem with a poem of 'their' own. So intriguing.

Dear Candide, that sounds fascinating, and I’m really looking forward to reading what Gemini sent you. I’m always intrigued by how different systems “read” a poem, so thank you for taking the time to explore that and share it with me. You’re a good friend to bring that kind of curiosity. You actually caught my brain that was in full contemplative mode about the aging process, tech advancing quickly, and what it means to me, my industry, and life in general. Thank You! Winter Blessings, Daniel

Chat GPT and A.I. is advancing rapidly, more than we understand or comprehend. Moltbook is fascinating.

Your metaphors make it seems like we are dragging our feet, that's the best way I can describe it. dragging our feet and unconscious under life strain...this is healing stuff nonetheless, in its own way.... it satisfies what we're looking for.

Dear Paige, I really appreciate how you phrased that — “dragging our feet and unconscious under life strain.” That’s exactly the territory this poem is trying to touch. Thank you for reading it with such sensitivity. Winter Blessings, Paige Daniel

Hello Joe, your comment made me laugh, thank you for that. I’m glad the poem stirred something, even if it raised the hairs on your neck. I always appreciate your honesty and your good humor. Winter Blessings, Joe Daniel
