Protected

Protected I have a military compound With barbed wire and “No entry” signs all around My heart And am not ready To start To change my habits Or take things apart. My routines are calming and steady, Though people say I’m a bore I feel comfortably numb and secure With the four locks on my door. And if I have to brave the storms outside Where I feel unprotected and unsure, I keep my eyes focused on the floor And know I can hide Behind a mask and be safely obscure. © Sangeet Portals, 01.2023
