Promises I Cannot Keep

I swore,
I'd never let it break me,
I'd never let it make be bitter.
I told myself things would get better,
But every scar burns red.
I thought that I was stronger,
But every encounter leaves me drained.
It doesn't matter how good the day,
I anticipate the pain.
It doesn't matter If they say they love me,
I can't trust them to be sincere,
I can't trust them, to care beyond tomorrow.
I promised myself,
I'd give people a chance.
I'd try to let them in.
But so far,
Those are promises I can't keep
