Profile In Beauty

there was her eyes
there was my bed
there was the empty house
neither could spark
the flame I needed
to burn like those
of great passion

with isolated footprints
shrouding the sidewalk
a moment that clings like fly paper
the infatuated teen
I sorely became

still, I cherished the view
I smiled as she drew
nearer to my front door

alas it was only
a vertical dream
above the waist
in black, in white
with me waking
seconds before
the kissing begins

Such longing with feet of clay, Ricky. Your images are so strong - "vertical dream," isolated footprints shrouding the sidewalk," "a moment that clings like fly paper." Congratulations on your win.

Yes I've written about this a few times...my old poem "Courage" comes to mind...but I was in high school then -a long time ago. I've also dealt with this a lot as well....I guess that's why I write..... Anyway, nice poem here! MC

Is there anything more universal than teenage angst? Thanks for the kind words.

Waking just before the kissing scene. Yeah, dreams have a bad habit of doing that don't they? I really like this poem of yours, it brings back memories....Maria

This is a very interesting one, just how dreams are. I sure know that feeling. Hard to have a truly blissful dream the older we get!!

Andrea I began writing lyrics. This morphed into poems, but the difference is poems for me required a deeper thought process which meant addressing not so happy moments in my life. Thanks for your input and have a great day.........peace!

This is too frustratingly sad. I know the dream myself. Well done Richard. Patricia
