Notes About The Poem

"FINALLY BRETHREN, WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS HONORABLE, WHATEVER IS RIGHT, WHATEVER IS PURE, WHATEVER IS LOVELY, WHATEVER IS OF GOOD REPUTE, IF THERE IS ANY EXCELLENCE AND ANYTHING WORTHY OF PRAISE, LET OUR MIND DWELL ON THESE THINGS."                                                                                                                                          Philippians 4:8

Profanity

Profanity's a loathsome thing.
The words used are the worst,
Expressing thoughts most vile and crude.
Such language is perverse;

For when we speak we show the world,
What dwells within our mind,
And as he thinks so is the man,
We really haven't time,

To waste on words of guilt and shame,
That hurt even their user;
For words have power, don't forget,
Once said they can leave bruises,

That stay o'er long and cause great pain.
Be careful what you say,
And guard your thoughts lest you forget,
And let the devil play,

Little games within your mind,
For that's where sin begins;
So study hard and think good thoughts,
And just don't let him in.

Hello Judy ... profane words are not needed, and are fillers for a lack of knowledge of the language. In other words, not needed nor desired - thank you Judy - Lindsay

Thank you so much Lindsay. I used to tell my children that people swear in an effort to express themselves and give their words meaning. I said, Show how much you know by using better words that take more than 3 or 4 letters to spell. Really intelligent people don't swear because they don't have to. They express themselves quite well. Thank you my friend. God Bless, JB

Hi Judy a profound poem about profanity, so well penned. I feel the boastful tongue and pride is more profane, but anyhow, as long as we follow God's wise ways with love light and hope, no one can go wrong. Hugs/Blessings, Jennifer.

I am always careful what to read and write. I am sure a look at my poems will reveal lack of profanity.

Definitely Victor. You know too many other words to so well describe what you want to say you don't need any great big four letter words. Thanks so much, God Bless, JB

Outstanding in my opinion, JB. I wrote a similar poem very recently about care in using words, even though I do believe we all occasionally, certainly me included, let out words that should be better unsaid. I don't like profanity, so I am in the spirit of your poem. Good stuff!
