Primordial Silence

                                                     Ere the wind had cognomen won,
                                                         the forest hushed its breath;
                                                     each leaf a tremulous palimpsest
                                                        of life colloquing with death—
                                              till Silence, that primordial lexicon of the Eternal,
                                                     uttered worlds no tongue bequeath.
