Primal Fear
It's survival time nerves are
high upon a tightrope. Look
straight ahead don't look down
this is a walk of life and death.
Sweat drawn from a primal fear
it's unclear what threats are near.
Danger lurks in this unknown land.
Harrowing noises echo from all around,
visions of snarling teeth from a howling
beast cloud my mind.
I need to shake off
this dread straighten my head, diminish
my fear before I end up dead.
Now I realize the truth. The sun is lost, my
will it fades. As near dark approaches this
primal fear I cannot evade.
