When I was mere dollars away from my last fortune
Many were the faces and all had smiles
Needy and scheming so quick to prey on my kindness
The lies were translucent and the motive was clear
It was easier for me to allow passage across a bridge
Soon to be but cinders
The Ojay's said it lyrically the best, “They smile in your
face and all the time they wanna take your place”
On every set poised and determined to insure that I'd
never see the summit of my promise and birthright
The intentions of nearly all were suspect, friends and foe
And the harsh reality of the human heart and its integrity
became a myth as I learned, even loyalty has a price tag.
