Prevaricates

Maybe the fault lies
Within me
Maybe the fault lingers
Within my voice
Maybe the fault dwells
Within my suffocating words
Maybe the fault lurks
Within the smoke in my lungs
That can’t hack its way out
Maybe the fault cuts
Within my wounds that spread
Covering the parts they can’t see
Maybe the fault slithers
around the grooves
And the twists of my body
My blemished face
My bruised heart
Maybe the fault lies
Within you
Maybe the fault dances
Within your knives of your words
And your anguish
And that which you caused me
Maybe the fault gazes
At the nights we shared
The nearly satisfied sighs
Maybe the fault guards
The secrets we keep
for the rest of our lives
Maybe the fault lies
Not within me
But within you
Maybe the fault
  lies
