Pretty In Pink

You're pretty in that awful shade of pink
with the walls closing in
like a bad B movie
and it's just in one second more that you'll skip
like a wacky, fruit flavored sprite across the lawn.
Will you be complaining of grass stains this afternoon
having fallen to your knees in the splendor of the day?
Will you risk the history down narrow halls
just to increase your farmer's tan?
I'm watching you still from our blanket
-too close to the red ants which I know you
are frightfully allergic to.
My book is dragging
Bees are buzzing
Only my toes are in the sun
trying to warm my whole body and failing
And then there's you:
wildly approaching strangers,
tipping hats
laughing at silent jokes
skipping to your own tune
and looking awfully pretty in that shade of pink.
