Pretend

I pretended not to hear
the words that you said
acted like we still had a chance
sat for hours wondering why
why couldn't you say it
say what I thought you felt
knowing now there was no chance
knowing now you didn’t feel it
but still I pretend not to know
pretend there is still some shred of chance
pretend I might just be wrong
wrong about you and wrong about them
