Precipice of Reality

I stand at the precipice of reality
Watching monoliths collapse
And religions fall to pieces
As men brand themselves messiah

For every wall is a bill of lies
Complicit in flabbergasted gazes
Blazes erupt where peace prospered
Enabling insanity and vanity

Haunted by echoes of past success
I search my history for clues to the future
But the sky is a twisted scarlet
As blood rains from the heavens

Written form became discombobulated
As if filtered through shards of glass
I once stood at the doorstep of reason
But reason drove me to despair

If tears rolled down my eyes
They're not even real emotions
They're simply an illusion
A memory of what it feels like to feel

Who am I to sing hymns for the gods
When the gods don't even believe in themselves
It's so convenient to abandon existence
When existence needs them the most

Pariahs brand themselves messiahs
So what good is a message when it's so garbled
It might as well be spoken underwater
And the mindless gobble mindfuls of nonsense

This is just an abandoned reality
Where the faithless beg for faith
Where those with the most beg for more
And preach for us all to be thankful

And soon there will be no escape
As they'll chase you into the next life
Twisting reality into the cruel image
Of what one might call the devil

Rebellion rots in my mind
Forsaken for decades due to fear
Of a system that seeks only to destroy
A semblance of rational thought

My fingers bleed colors
As everything turns black and white
And it surely wont be long
Before I forget they ever existed

But what does it mean to feel anymore
When nothing is real and everything is fake
And when I look in the mirror and see nothing at all
I question whether I'm even standing here

There is a darkness inside I've tried to face
But no matter how many times I've cried
The only thing that remains to be true
Is that demons still haunt the depths of my mind

I walk not on shards of glass
But the edges of knives and daggers
Leaving my feet bloodied and mangled
Eventually I won't be able to stand

But the corruption of one reality
Will lead to the corruption of them all
Causing them to eventually explode
With the might of a billion suns

So here I cling to the precipice of reality
Yet with nothing to hold on to
I watch as everything fades away
Ushering in something worse than death...
