Precious Gems

Precious gems need care and attention
     Nurture, devotion need not mention

As we prepare their dazzling display
Not to forget ~ toddlers also must play

Many are so preoccupied with the display of the little gems that they may put secondary child’s play! I recall a friend whose mom dressed her in pretty little dresses but we were kids playing on the playground. Pants would have been more practical. This poem can mean so much more depending on reference of the reader. Well done.

Whether they play with the jewels or the poem is meant more about putting aside work and entertainment to spend with the kids. The precious gems also are the children, who need time to play. So many things can be pulled feom one poem making it a great one!

Little gems with runny noses, yes. I read that diamonds ( called ice because they are cold) can be melted. In 1694 in Florence, 2 chemists were the first to discover this. They focused sunlight on a diamond with a large magnifying glass and the gem eventually disappeared. (Nature's Building Blocks, John Emsley). I was astonished ( not being a scientist). I wonder how they explained this to the owner of the diamond... Sweet couplets and fun double meanings. J aka 'Granny' :)
