Prayer For Tomorrow

Despite a multitude of misunderstandings that pervade society
I still believe there are many common principles shared by all
The rights with which we all are born, yet sometimes are lost
Or stripped away when resistance is weakened by oppression
And they who are able to help, making such little concession
All mankind is the ultimate loser, and ever pays a great cost
We well know the saying that pride always goes before a fall
But what most of us are still left with, is that constant anxiety

We can understand why animals in the wild, fight to survive
Or even to compete for a mate and to continue the species
But by now, aren’t we all way beyond such wild behaviour
History is just dusty paper, each generation seems to forget
It has been millennia now, but we still haven’t learned it yet
It takes us all, with our shared values, not only one saviour
But we must seek what’s hidden in all of our brain’s creases
Yet still I must ask, what does it take for humanity to thrive
