Notes About The Poem
These verses are inspired by the book, Prashna Upanishad, authored by Guru Bhaktananda. Prashna means question, that is, questions of earnest seekers on the path. The reflections however do not purport to be a translation and in fact are merely the reactions of this poet, based on his internal spiritual journey. As such, the reader should go through the original text and come to their independent conclusions.
Prashna Upanishad verse 1:3 to 1:4
We ask, how did manifestation arise,
what’s the purpose and what are we doing here,
to which the guru said, simply realise,
existence is one, feel within bliss beats spear.
God created space-time, then all worlds within,
hiding Himself in each heart, so go therein,
dissolve the ego, which is an interface
and recognise light of Self by divine grace.
To know the truth, we go back the way we came,
becoming the life force that empowers form,
sliding into silence, no tempests to tame,
we are the stillness centred in every storm.
The womb of space pierced, we stand as living light,
made in God’s image and drenched in bliss delight,
which is akin to waking up from a dream,
seeing we’re always aloft on love’s moonbeam.
The light of Self known, it is as yet a seed,
since God Absolute to us remains unknown
but if we be still and allow Him to lead,
in timeless time we imbibe clear truth full blown.
Taking our head ovoid as the cosmic egg,
hatching out of it, twice born we do not beg,
descending to heart, where polarities merge,
embodying God’s light, felt as a bliss surge.
